T: The depletion of natural resources is an environmental challenge that affects humanity and, in particular, businesses. In response to this scenario, a sustainable development approach to satisfy current needs is necessary without compromising future generations’ well-being. Hence, as part of sustainability, circular economy establishes a production model that prioritizes resource use, aiming for a cyclical system where materials are repaired, reused, and recycled, thereby reducing waste generation. Successful circularity practice implementation in companies requires an initial diagnosis to assess a company’s current state and potential to adopt circular economy models that add value to their products. To this end, this study developed a survey based on international circular economy standards (ISO 59004, 59010, and 59020). Considering that more than 90% of companies in Colombia are micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, this study focuses on this sector. Although the research is ongoing, preliminary literature reviews and analyses of Colombia’s current situation precede the application of the survey. Researchers expect most of these companies will have a low maturity state, classified as beginners or novices in circularity according to ISO 59010 standard. Based on the results, company circularity is analyzed, considering size and sector. Then, researchers presented guidance implementing circular economy practices focused on increasing maturity levels. Thus, our working paper contributes to (a) reviewing corresponding literature, (b) evaluating the circular practice maturity (“as-is” situation), and (c) guiding on improving maturity levels (“to-be” situation), considering as our frame of reference Colombian SME perspectives.eng
